REVIEW : Vanilla by Megan Hart

RELEASE DATE : February 24, 2015

It's an acquired taste…he just has to acquire it

Elise knows what she wants in the bedroom, and she makes sure she gets it. Her thirst for domination has long been quenched by a stable of men only too happy to bow down before her.

But sexual satisfaction isn't the same as love, and she's been burned in the past by giving her heart too freely.

Niall is handsome, smart, successful and sweet—sweet as vanilla. When they meet, their romantic connection is electric, even though he's way on the opposite end of the kink spectrum. Despite how she fights it, Elise falls for him—but how can a relationship work when both lovers want to be on top?

Big thanks to Megan Hart for gifting me this read. Twitter rules!

Megan Hart is one of the most solid writers in the game, in my opinion. There is something unique in her ability to tell a story that just has so much character depth and pulls genuine emotion from the reader. Her books deliver more than just romance and sex. Vanilla is another great example to not judge a book by its cover.

There might be some itty-bitty spoilers in the recap, nothing major though.

Elise is a wonderful force of sexuality in this book. She is a dominant lover and a dominate photography model, but she has a sensitive heart. Her family is a fucking trip, with her young nephew being the only other sane person around. Together, they deal with some serious heartache.

Elise has a few romantic entanglements throughout the book; let’s start with “George”. Not his real name, but he left Elise frayed at the edges. His not so distant memory has Elise questioning anyone who gets too close to her heart.

Then there is the Latin lover, Esteban.  Esteban and Elise have a strict sex only rule. They both favor the D/S kink in their spare time. Of course, anytime you bond with someone in such a way, there is a possibility that feelings may change and issues may arise.

Niall

*Le sigh*

Not a good one either, by the way.

Niall is friends with Elise’s brother and they meet at a gallery showcase where Elise is subject. All is going well until Niall clues in on her “unique” taste.

I really wanted to like Niall because he started out so fucking good, but holy shit, did I want a house to fall on him.

I mean, I tried to see things from his point of view and I can kind of understand him on some things. However, he was such a complete tit in regards to Elise’s feelings that I just wish she would tell him to go fuck himself.

See?! Megan Hart creates characters that raise my blood pressure in many ways. Got to love it.
