No matter how many times he's left her in the past, Sybil Chalmers can't ignore her feelings for the one man who stole her heart?years ago.?For?countless nights, she has waited for him--for his kiss, his touch--and has longed for him to emerge from the shadows of his past. Only when she is in his arms does Sybil really feel alive…and finally, after all these years, that time is now.

A DEADLY DESIRE

He's a man raised in a world of strict rules and unbreakable traditions and he's always yearned to break free. But when a family tragedy lures him back home, he finds his one true passion has been there all along. With Sybil, he can explore his greatest potential--and allow her to discover a whole new level of ecstasy. But will a long-buried secret threaten to tear them apart? The only thing he knows for sure is that he will do anything to keep Sybil in his life…and keep her coming back for more.

Darker Than Desire is actually book 3 in the Secrets & Shadows series. I have not read the first two books or the novellas leading to this book and start of the series, but I feel it does well enough on its own.

I must give a heads up that this book delves into some pretty dark territory in connection to the male lead's past. That male lead being David Sutter, also know as Caine Yoder in his Amish world. Yeah. Amish. Must say that was something I have never read of in a romance-thriller but it was quite a cool little addition.

David returns to the Amish community for the funeral of someone he considered a life saver and closest thing to family he really had, but back in his real world, the trauma of his past is being revealed in a big way. The only person who can really understand and get through to David, is Sybil Chalmers.

Sybil is dealing with her own family mess, which includes raising her young nephew while her sister Layla, seeks help. David and Sybil have known each other for at least 10 years, but David's past continues to be almost a third party in the development of their relationship.

David becomes a suspect in a police investigation when people responsible for the horrors of his past start dropping off. Does he have it in him to kill? Some think so, until the victim pattern suddenly changes and a new suspect emerges, giving the small town a big shock.

Sybil and David have so much emotion and passion between them and it comes through full force.

I have a bit of a hit-miss relationship with most Shiloh Walker books, but this was a solid hit.
